Meditation is something we hear more and more about nowadays.
Mindfulness, getting still, focussing on wellbeing, and living a healthy lifestyle is something that most, if not all us strive for in life. To truly be the best we can be.
The White Candle Meditation App is based on a meditation that I used to do for a long time at the beginning and end of each day. I found that by focussing on the flame and nothing else, this calmed my mind and allowed all the stresses I was feeling at the time to simply just float away.
After a period of time, I came up with the idea to share my meditation style with the world, and created the App that is featured on this site.
I am someone who typically has a notepad and pen nearby at all times. I like to jot down notes and record my thoughts and find that this can be quite calming on its own. Emptying my mind so to speak onto paper or the notes folder in my phone allows me to clear my thoughts and focus on the task at hand. It is for this reason that I included the “My Notes” feature in the App.
I found that after meditating, I would have thoughts that came to me during my sessions that I wanted to write down to refer to later. Having the My Notes feature on the App allows you to capture these thoughts at the end of your meditation.
There have been many studies on meditation over the years, I found this useful resource a while ago and refer to it from time to time.
I find that people often ask me what meditation is specifically beneficial for, or how to do it, or what to do. They ask if they should hum, should they do it at night time or during the day, do they have to close their eyes?
I struggle to really find one definitive answer to the questions I get around meditation, but typically respond with this;
There are so many forms of meditation, in my opinion, some of which most people are doing everyday anyway, but just do not associate the label of meditation with it. For some people cooking can have a similar effect, perhaps even folding washing, or walking by the ocean, there really are many different forms of meditation.
I found that when I first started out, I put so much pressure on myself to “get still”. And in doing so, felt even more restless than when I began. Over time, I realised that getting still was not so much of a conscious process, but more so one which occurs naturally, if we allow it. It is realising that all that is going on in our lives is the right here right now. Cliche’ I know, but it really is true.
What is happening in the next 5 or 10 minutes has not even manifested physically at this moment, yet we can get ourselves into a frenzy over our thoughts. The same goes for past events, often we can re-live past events in our lives.
Did I say the right thing?
Did I do the right thing?
But if I did this then that may not have happened?
The fact is, the past is the past, it no longer physically exists, yet we have a habit as humans to allow the past to exist in our minds. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that we should discount all memories in our lives, but where we found ourselves going over and over a situation that causes us pain or anguish, this is our queue to re-structure our thoughts so that they do not overpower us.
So this is just an introduction to how the App and the process of meditation came to be in my life, and perhaps answers some questions you may have.
